| 白璧德与辜鸿铭是近代西方和中国有名的思想家，身处一百多年前西方开始进入现代物质文明的世界大潮之中，他们都是在保守主义外衣下积极倡导古典传统的人文主义代表。文章从时代背景、理论渊源和重要观点三个方面简要阐明他们思想的相似性，指出二者是在同一时代背景下对西方现代文明的反思，都是英国文化哲学家阿诺德的忠实追随者，还同样极力地推崇中国的儒家思想。他们的反思和人文主义至今仍有一定的积极意义。 |
| English Summary: |
| Irving Babbitt and Gu Hongming are famous thinkers in modern West and China. Although living in the world of modern material civilization about 100 years before , they are the humanist representatives advocating classical tradition in the guise of conservativism. This paper demonstrates their similarities in thoughts from background, theoretical origins and important ideas, pointing out that both of them had reflection on the modern western civilization, faithfully followed the British cultural philosopher，Matthew Arnold, and strongly praised Chinese Confucian thought.As reflection and humanism have certain positive significance, this paper intends to provoke further research. |
