| Adaptation-relevance model is an integration of relevance theory and adaptation theory; it takes into consideration both the production and interpretation sides of verbal communication. The present study makes an inquiry into verbal politeness within this model. Based on the analysis of verbal politeness in situated conversational discourse, the paper draws the conclusion that the generation of anticipated politeness effect and that of inferred politeness effect are dynamic. |
