      The Lewis base properties of Al_2O_3 and SiO_2 have been studied with an infrared spectroscopic approach by using boric acid trimethyl ester (BATE) as probe molecule.BATE interacts selectively with surface Lewis sites of Al_2O_3 and SiO_2,and its IR spectrum supplies the direct informstion of the strength of Lewis base of Al_2O_3 and SiO_2.
