Studies on the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis (AS) were reviewed in our department. During the formation of AS, the sarcoplasm of the medial and intimal smooth muscle cells ( SMCs ) were filled with Golgi complex, mitochondrion and rough endoplasmic reticulum. The SMCs might be in synthetics state and in relation to hyperplasm and transfer. The lines of argentation and surface area of EC were increased,which might be relationship with the increase of the permeability of EC and the initiation and develop ment of AS. EC were filled with Golgi complex, mitochondrion and rough endoplasmic reticulum, which related with the increase of EC activity.There were a lot of foam cells adhesion and aggregation in the endothelium, which might relate with formation of fatty streaks.
During the regression of AS, the ultrastructure of SMCs and EC was almost normal. The SMCs might be in contractile state. The metabolic activlty of EC might be lower than one of EC of AS group. The macrophages inbibed cholesterol and cholesterol ester, which played a important in cleaning cholesterol and cholesterol ester. |
