Ancient sages endowed the natural ecological phenomenon with moral connotation and philosophicalc implication, summed up its laws, and based on which issued ceremony and music, established regulations, and governed the country, to interpret, to guide and to standardize people’s thoughts and behaviors. These are the important characteristics and existential significance of Chinese traditional classical philosophy. The reason lies in: first, the nature of Heaven and Earth was defined, that was“the great virtue of Heaven and Earth is born”; second, the criterion of“Sir”, the sage king, was put forward, that was, “the sage and sage king conformed to the morality of Heaven and Earth”; third, the foundation of the legal principle of the sage monarch governing the world was laid, that was, “human finished God’s work”. The logical roots of this thinking can be seen in the classical philosophy and the resulting model of state governance, which is based on Circle of Life, cycles and an infinite natural ecology, showcasing the outstanding foresight and comprehensive holistic thinking of traditional ecological concepts, which are highly in line with the concepts of “good ecology” and “sustainable development” put forward in the contemporary society. At the same time, the Confucian Ecosophy needs to achieve modern transformation in order to contribute to the construction of modern ecological civilization. |
