English Summary:
From the theoretical perspective of sociological disability research, combined with the context of 18th century European Enlightenment, this paper focuses on the disability writing in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and The Last Man, and analyzes its cultural construction significance in refuting the rejection of bodily others in Western society. The rejection and violence of Monster in Frankenstein reflects the negative shaping of the disabled identity by facial disfigurement and “Just World Belief” in Western culture. The disabled community established by Lord Protector Adrian in The Last Man reveals the British society's need to build a disabled society when the plague breaks out. The disability writing in those two novels display Mary Shelley's sympathy for the dilemma of the disabled individuals in the West, and advocates her positve vision of human nature, social improvement and human progress.
