In the Tang Dynasty, Lu Deming's Jingdian Shiwen recorded two phrases: "number object(数物)" and "ten number Li(十数里)". The different texts in the“number”of these two phrases are "suo(所)".The "suo(所)" should be the same as the usage and meaning of "number" in this context. It can be numeral ,meaning " a few."From the age of language materials, the age of completion and examples in the literature, we can see that "numeral +suo(所)+ classifier/ noun " (ten number li) came into being in the Wei, Jin and six dynasties. The nature, format meaning and origin of the two format of " numeral +suo(所)+ classifier/ noun " and "numeral + classifier + suo(所)" are different. There is no relationship between the two. " numeral +suo(所)+ classifier/ noun " has the same formation mechanism as the " numeral +xu(许)+ classifier/ noun ".The variant of Jingdian Shiwen is used to record the usage of "suo(所)" and " numeral +suo(所)+ classifier/ noun " format, which enriches the usage of "Suo" and has the value of versioned science. From this, it can be seen that Jingdian Shiwen is not only a treasure trove of text, phonetics, and exegesis, but also an important reference corpus for literature research and the study of Chinese historical grammar. |
