| Ragtime is the fourth novel of E.L.Doctorow, a Jewish American writer. The novel contains a series of images about duplication and transformation, which arouses reader’s profound concern on their existential condition. According to the analysis of the images and writing technique, the paper reflects the influences of mechanical duplication on both material and spiritual life of human society in a post-industrial society. It aims to illustrate the dialectical relationship of duplication and transformation, the binary oppositions in philosophical sense and to convey the humanistic tendency of Doctorow, who shows much concern on society and human destiny. |
