| This paper mainly discussed and questioned the academically- recognized truth about Wang Zhichun’s betrayal and the so-called direct relationship between the Anti-France Movement and Wang’s dismissal from office. On the basis of the newly published French Diplomatic Files and reinterpretation of historical data and late Qing Dynasty’s official files, I thought that Wang did take traitoriously non-official negotiations such as borrowing money from France and Germany, but didn’t depend on French military power to suppress the civil unrest in the Province of Guangxi. And I drew the conclusion that Wang ‘s dismissal from office didn’t result from the Anti-France Movement but from his ineffectively suppressing the civil unrest, reporting false military situation, claiming credit rewards and corrupting official management. |
