| Based on language communication, functional equivalence shows the iconicity between the receptor language and the source language: the iconicity of the receptor’s responding in terms of communicative effect and the iconicity of meaning and style in the process of translation. Due to wide-ranging receptors as well as connotation and denotation of meaning and style, functional equivalence theory is characterized by different levels, diversity of translation criteria, which is believed to shed a new light on the direction and implementation of translation practice. |
