| Polysemy is a hot issue in linguistic research,and this paper made a cognitive analysis under the framework of prototype category theory.Through a case study of FACE,it is found that polysemic word constitutes a semantic category with the primary meaning as the prototype,and extended meanings are derived from prototype shift,prototype split and subcategorization. |
