| Polysemy is a hot issue in linguistic research, and this paper made a cognitive analysis under the framework of prototype category theory. Through a case study of FACE, it is found that polysemic word constitutes a semantic category with the primary meaning as the prototype, and extended meanings are derived from prototype shift，prototype split and subcategorization. |
