| This paper，from the point of the speaker itself, discusses three reasons of generating humor in conversation, such as distorting, misleading and misunderstanding. It provides a new angle for the research of generating humor. Based upon the theories of humor mechanism, the author discusses how to apply Relevance Theory to explain the understanding of humor through examples. Such discussion will help us understand and master the English language better, and improve our linguistic competence and communicative competence. |
