| One of the themes of 1950’s—1960’s American literature characterizes madness. The characters with neurosis in Salinger’s works who attempt to pursue the expression of the self and break away of alienation are represented as madman, which reveals the reality of alienation resulted from the totalitarian domination and science and technology development. This paper attempts to give an analysis to images of madman and explore the social background of madness from the angle of power theory and psychology. |
