| Hekouhu compound vowels are those with "u" as their pre-nuclear glidings or main vowels.In modern Xiang dialect,Hekouhu can be classified into at least six syllabic types,each of which has an uneven distribution in the dialect and different origin.With its influence on modern Xiang dialect by labializing velar sounds and changing the tongue positions of certain main vowel sounds,"u" plays an importantrole in the development of modern Xiang dialect. |
