| On the basis of campus life,both the two novels of The Banner of Desire and Disciples focused on the intellectuals of universities during the transformational period of the society and especially their way of existence.Having a study and comparison on the two novels of similar flavor,you will find the spiritual degeneration process of these intellectuals in face of the temptation of material greed from the end of last century till the beginning of this century.At the very beginning,they were at a loss what to do.Then,they became double-faced.And in the end,they made peace with the reality and lost the room to rest their soul,which helped to push forward the theme of the novel.Though narrated in a pessimistic way,the story contained a desire to restore a certain kind of belief. |
