| President Kennedy of the United States issued an executive order on March 1, 1961 to establish a voluntary Peace Corps on a temporary and experimental basis. The Peace Corps Act passed on September 22 gave it permanent authority. The Peace Corps mainly sends American youth who have regular education to the developing nations to help in teaching, or construct social development projects, etc. The main reason that the Kennedy Administration established the Peace Corps was for the need of the Cold War. |
